Flower Garden Pop-up
Proposal for Culture Forward, hosted by the The Svane Family Foundation in an effort to support arts and culture projects in the San Francisco Downtown area.
Project Statement
Flower Garden Pop-Up is a mobile installation that celebrates the diverse floral typologies that shape San Francisco’s identity and history. Each inflatable flower represents a unique connection to the city’s landscape:
● Union Square Tulip – A tribute to the annual Flower Bulb Day celebration in Union Square each spring.
● Golden Gate Park Magnolia – An homage to the Magnolia Garden in Golden Gate Park.
● California Poppy – A nod to the state flower and its vibrant presence across the Bay Area in spring.
● Ocean Beach Seaside Daisy – A recognition of the delicate seaside daisies that thrive along the Great Highway at Ocean Beach.
The installation features custom planter-seating bases filled with native plantings, each mounted on casters for easy mobility. Rising from these bases, custom-designed inflatable flowers—standing approximately 14 feet tall—draw public attention from afar and up close. Designed for flexibility, Flower Garden can pop up in various locations across downtown San Francisco and beyond, from Chinatown to Mission Bay.
